Ocala furniture retailer that replaced Bed Bath & Beyond closing shop

A furniture and mattress “overstock” retailer that replaced the former Bed Bath & Beyond in Ocala says it is closing up shop, just a few months after it opened its doors.

Overstock Furniture & Mattress will close its location in Ocala at 2701 SW College Road. Located in the Gaitway Plaza, the business made the announcement last month, although no date has been specified.

Overstock opened its sole location in Ocala last year in a space that was formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed last Summer amidst a slew of closures across the state.

Overstock operates locations all across the country, including stores in Texas, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, among others.

The company’s stores feature a wide variety of sofas, dining and patio sets, mattresses, and other types of furniture.

According to a social media post by the local affiliate, the Overstock location in Ocala will be replaced by Golf Galaxy.

The closure marks another closure of a national brand along Ocala’s most trafficked roadway. In the past five years, Boston Market, Krystal’s, Ruby Tuesday’s, and Pier One Imports have all closed their locations as part of nationwide restructuring.

Nearby, Logan’s Roadhouse closed its sole location in Ocala in 2020. That facility sat vacant for several years before K-Pot Korean BBQ and Hot Pot opened a new restaurant last October.

Crave, which was located in the Shady Oaks Shopping Center, closed its location just a few months after it opened.
