Students escape injury after teen driver rear-ends school bus in Williston

A school bus carrying 22 students from Williston was involved in a crash on Thursday morning in Levy County.

Shortly before 8:25 a.m., a 2015 Hyundai sedan and 2009 Thomas Built school bus were both traveling northbound on NE 140th Court in Williston, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the driver of the school bus, a 48-year-old woman from Bronson, brought the school bus to a stop to pick up students at the intersection of NE 50th Place.

A trooper noted in the report that the sedan’s driver, a 16-year-old girl from Williston, was traveling behind the school bus and failed to stop in time. As a result, the front of the sedan struck the rear of the school bus.

At the time of the crash, the school bus was occupied by 22 students from Williston Middle High School, and none of them were injured.

Both drivers involved in the crash also avoided injury.

The FHP report stated that the teen driver of the sedan was issued a citation for careless driving.
