Community Alert: Large police presence at Dunnellon Middle School

A large police presence responded to Dunnellon Middle School on Friday afternoon after receiving a call for service.

In a social media post, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office urged the public to avoid the area while deputies searched the school to ensure that there were no threats to students or staff.

At 5:40 p.m., MCSO stated in an update that deputies were still conducting a search of the middle school campus.

“At this time we have not located any threat to the safety of students and staff,” stated the sheriff’s office in the update. “We are continuing our investigation into the call for service.”

Twenty minutes later, at 6 p.m., MCSO stated on social media that Dunnellon Middle School has been cleared.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies did not locate any threat to the safety of the  students and staff at the middle school. All students that were still on campus have been released to their families.

No further details were provided by MCSO regarding the call for service that prompted the arrival of law enforcement.
